I’m starting with motivation first since that’s the one most relevant to my life right now. I also yap a lot because I’m autistic about art (and other adjacent things). You couldn’t have asked me at a better time since I’m coming out of Rentry block to work on this commission… What I did was very stupid. I played ranked Splatoon 3 for a few days. Having another hobby really helped me because I felt like a lazy slob not being able to work on this commission, when really my brain just wanted other stimulation.. I used more logic (in the sense of strategizing rounds) and aggression when I play instead of creativity. The passion is there, just elsewhere, After playing a competitive game like Splatoon, I had a high amount of energy and motivation, which I transferred over to my craft. You will need a lot of energy and motivation to continue a craft, even if you don’t want to keep going and continuously fail at it. Which brings me to my next point: Failure. I think of this quote often, “A master has failed a thousand times more than a beginner has tried”. Don’t be scared of failing; it’s part of the process. I would know, considering that I create, destroy, and recreate a lot before I get something good out of it. I do this through experimenting with my layouts before I even move onto stuff like an inner background or the main graphic itself. This experimentation process is how I find out what works and what doesn’t work as I lay out the foundation. My experimentation process is nothing too special. I basically just throw pixels on a Rentry, see how they work with each other, and create an inner background and graphic that complements them. I think more like an artist whenever I do something, so I think more of balance, negative/positive space, and composition when designing a Rentry. Again, having transferable stuff from other hobbies helps a lot whenever picking up a new one. Onto inspiration… I am inspired by everything and everyone! My best advice is to build a strong visual library by going out and seeing new things. I have Pinterest boards exactly for this reason. Like with failure, I will scan thousands of these things until I find “the one” (or even create stuff for me to use like borders and pixels). I’d also say I’m very inspired by my Carrd past, which is why my stuff doesn’t really look like Rentries. Tumblr has a lot of hidden gems and pixels. Sometimes you might be overthinking things and need to narrow stuff down. Think, what am I trying to capture? What do I need to capture that? How do these elements work with each other? Go out and answer that with your resources available. Usually I answer these questions by narrowing it down to a list of requirements for a pixel I need or an aesthetic I want to capture. I also make a reference bank of the aesthetic I’m going for. Its just a bunch of images next to each other really. But it helps me to have something I can look at for constant inspiration. Especially with seeing what works and what doesn’t —- these people have the solutions, I’m just studying from them. This helps a lot for the inner background because I would make a list of PNGs I need based off of those images in the reference bank. Reminder: my creative process is different from yours! These are just things I do whenever I work on a Rentry. It’s a lot of effort to ensure I get the best result possible. You don’t have to put this much effort unless it works for you.

Tetratto will be inactive for the time being as I enjoy my solitude here... I need to update my links to only link to my Atabook. Anyways, a tutorial since I make these myself! 01. I use https://nikke-db.pages.dev/visualiser to get the Live2D sprites of the character. 02. When I've selected the one I want, I record it WITH a green screen (or something I can make transparent & doesn't overlap with the colors of the character). I also make sure that it will loop perfectly (if not, I can get rid of some excess frames on Ezgif) 03. I turn the video into a gif and size it down (to not make it big enough where my laptop or ezgif can't process it). 04. Then, I go to https://ezgif.com/effects and do "Replace color with transparency:" with the green color from the green screen. 05. There will be some bits of green left; you can select those by putting the sprite into an art program and just... selecting it, telling Ezgif to replace it with transparency, and so on. 06. If there are still bits of green left or translucent parts, you can just use Photoshop or Photopea, select Hue/Saturation, and replace the green with white. I've done this process like 3 times! One for an Ade commission, one for Mast, and one for Dorothy (for my sister). But I found out this method, like... in 2021, and instead of doing Nikke sprites, I was doing Bandori. If a game or anything has a Live2D visualizer, then you should be able to do it.
